Hugh Kerr produced a limited amount of Heathergems, which were sold through two or three shops in the Highlands during the 1960′s. In the late 60′s he met Mr Charles Buyers a Glasgow accountant who was looking for small manufacturing or craft businesses to be set up in the Wick and Caithness area on behalf of the Highlands and Islands ¬†Development¬†Corporation. Mr Buyers took the idea to the HIDB who rejected it saying it had no future. Mr Buyers decided to back Hugh Kerr himself and the company was set up in a small factory in East Kilbride in 1970.
